Dallas, for you

Enclosure,
gardens of orchids, hydrangeas,
peacn mulch,golf carts, fedoras,
pink shirts, mocassins, pregancies,
love-bugs, honey-bees, Texas squirrels,
and gray lizards bathing in the sun.

I’m halfway on a park bench.
What does the environment mean?

Once more —
Wide green pastures beset by sunlight, humidity at my breast,
Near the heat and the day, close, but I’d miss It if I kept my eyes open.
I could kiss my girlfriend. Is that what this pain is for?

Surely, this is why I don’t cry —
All this fragrant landscape, all my sunny knowing,
All this vernal radiance and I’m without understanding. It must be like the deers,
sensed in the meadow, still as tree trunks, nearer, nearer, ever nearer,
then gone.
